MindKare Mental Health Kiosk
The University of Alabama values health and wellbeing as a top priority for every student. UA promotes a holistic view of student wellness that considers the total student and the entirety of the student experience. In pursuit of student wellness, the Counseling Center, part of the Division of Student Life, debuted a MindKare Mental Health Kiosk in Fall 2018.
The kiosk includes a touch screen display to provide users with a seamless experience as they navigate through educational information about mental health conditions, a screening assessment and local treatment resources. The screening component provides a quick, anonymous way for people to check in on their mental health.
As demand for counseling services has increased significantly over the past several years, Student Life has worked to reach students where they are. This kiosk, currently on the second floor of the Ferguson Student Center, helped screen more than 2,500 students during the 2018-2019 year.
Student Life’s passion project is to place another MindKare Kiosk at a second hub for student activity — the Student Recreation Center. Our goal is $15,000. The Division of Student Life and the Counseling Center hope the continued growth of this initiative will connect students to their community, promote mental health awareness, and provide those in need with the resources to seek help.
