At the start of each semester, the College of Communication and Information Sciences (C&IS) enrolls more than 3,000 students. Unfortunately, financial difficulty prevents some of those students from remaining enrolled. While The University of Alabama and C&IS have developed safety nets through the years to help alleviate this issue, there are always students who are unable to persist because of relatively small balances on their student account ($300 - $3,000). These students are of great concern to our faculty and staff, because though these students—the majority of who come from underrepresented populations—have done everything they can to succeed, unforeseen financial challenges mean they cannot continue their coursework. Contributing to the C&IS Student Balance Relief Fund during Bama Blitz will ensure that more students with financial burdens receive the support they need to remain enrolled at The University of Alabama.
2020 has been a year full of uncertainty and challenges; the Bama Blitz funds raised for the C&IS Student Balance Relief Fund will ensure for a host of C&IS students that paying small balances on their student bill will be one less challenge to overcome.
These gifts will contribute to students’ tuition, living expenses and course materials.
