As a unique part of The University of Alabama, the Office of Teaching Innovation and Digital Education (OTIDE, formerly the College of Continuing Studies) provides flexible and innovative educational opportunities, technical assistance and applied research to make a difference and improve our world.
Our diverse offerings include bachelor's and advanced degree and certificate programs through distance learning with UA Online; UA Early College, giving highly motivated high school students a head start; OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) for adults 50 and older and many other educational and training programs.
The recently instituted UA Online Military Tuition Grant has helped students – such as Eddie Lawrence, an active duty U.S. Army Reserve platoon sergeant – work toward earning a degree from The University of Alabama while balancing their commitment to service and other responsibilities, including financial obligations.
With your help during this year’s Bama Blitz campaign, OTIDE hopes to reach its goal of establishing a new Military Service Member and Family Endowed Support Fund that will extend our ability to provide access to education. The fund will offer support for military service members, veterans and dependents of service members aspiring to enroll in UA Online programs.
“We have been delivering dreams by distance for more than 100 years,” said Dr. Robert Hayes, associate provost for OTIDE. “By reducing financial obstacles through our Endowed Support Fund, we can remove many of the challenges that cost can present for our military community and their families and help them achieve their educational goals.”
