University Libraries collectively represents the largest classroom on campus, and while we are always available to provide library instruction and research assistance for students and faculty online, we are preparing to offer more in-person learning opportunities and events in 2021.
Every year librarians lead classes designed to promote awareness of the millions of resources we provide in support of student success. Last year alone we taught over 800 classes, reaching approximately 19,000 students. If University Libraries was a college in the traditional sense, we would produce the highest percentage of alumni of any other unit within the University of Alabama. With that in mind, for Bama Blitz 2021 we want to fund innovative updates to our instruction and event spaces that will allow us to continue serving students and faculty, wherever they may be.
With your help, we plan to install multi-camera livestreaming hardware in our instruction and event spaces across all of our facilities. This technology will give our instructors the ability to seamlessly host and interact with in-person and online audiences simultaneously, with the touch of a button. While 2020 presented significant challenges to in-person learning, we believe our plan will breathe new life into our classrooms and event spaces in 2021 and beyond.
University Libraries goal for BamaBlitz is to raise $40,000. The University of Alabama Libraries Leadership Board will match every dollar you contribute up to $20,000, so do not miss this opportunity to support innovation in the ways we support student success. We are, after all, the largest classroom on campus. Roll Tide!
